Soup Weather
The gift of a home-cooked meal made with care and love was exactly what I wanted, and received on Mothers’ Day. The theme was Soup Weather and it was executed perfectly.
Current Obsessions
This week I am obsessed with the little touches that seem an act of defiance against the ordinary.
A Creative Oasis
What began as a blank room is slowly becoming an oasis of hardcover books, cottage charm, questionable furniture decisions and Facebook Marketplace victories. The chair may be uncomfortable and the sofa aggressively red, but the front room at The Willows is beginning to feel more and more like my creative home.
The Inept Gardener
Bulbs planted (eventually), shoots emerging, and small gardening wins in Adelaide—plus a suspiciously quiet possum. Progress, optimism, and mild chaos
Autumn Harvest…After
Chestnuts catching candlelight, slow-cooked lamb, and a table filled to the brim—this autumn gathering was less about restraint and more about generosity, comfort, and the simple pleasure of sharing a meal.
Autumn Harvest: Before
Dress rehearsals happen for a reason. Its a chance to step back and observe what is working and what is not. It’s a rare opportunity in life to make things right before they really count.
A little bit obsessed with…things I could easily buy, but didn’t
For some reason I find great satisfaction in taking the long way round.
Weeks like this
When everything felt uncertain, I found myself returning to what I could shape;
a table, a gathering, and spaces that said ”this is all you can control; make it yours”
The Inept Gardener
I have done nothing in the garden this month, but I have thought about it quite a lot, which feels adjacent to effort.
Completely Unnecessary, Entirely Worth It
A Little Obsessed With… Glow
The Inept Gardener
The Inept Gardener.
Chronicles from someone who gardens sporadically and expects miracles.
Part 2.
Summer round up
A look back at the colours, menus and table styling that shaped summer gatherings at The Willows.
Pastry (Im)Perfection
I guess I tried…
A pause at The Willows
There has been a change at The Willows that has brought me not to a halt so much as a pause.
Creativity and Self Control
A lesson in restraint, creativity and letting go of perfection in favour of what really matters.
Sunsets and Cocktails
Sometimes all you need is:
A cooler week after summer heat
A deck at sunset
Something delicious in a glass
And people to laugh with
And maybe —
just maybe —
a full bag of ice.
Glimmers
Moments of joy, strung together like pearls on a string can create something beautiful and worth protecting and treasuring.
Calm before the chaos
Before the madness of December took over our diaries we made time to catch up with dear friends for a relaxed lunch
The Inept Gardener… A series
How can I profess to love gardens so much, only to quickly and efficiently slaughter every plant I buy? It's a mystery to me. I love the colour and fragrance of gardens, the interplay of airy plants next to sturdy, impenetrable shrubs, but above all, the expanse of green soothes me. While some people seek the beach for renewal, I crave a garden, a sea of greens gently waving in a summer breeze, and I am in heaven.
Afraid of colour
Why are we, as a society, so afraid of colour? The recent Pantone Colour of the Year, white, or ‘Cloud Dancer,’ has sparked this reflection.
